The renal pelvis is the funnel-shaped top of the ureter, formed where the major calyces meet inside the kidney. It leaves the kidney through the hilum, the notch on its inner edge where the renal artery comes in and the renal vein goes out, and narrows into the ureter at the pelviureteric junction, one of the places a kidney stone most often gets stuck. In this model a short tube joins the pelvis to the ureter.
